A day in the life of a folding bike

Filed under: Bicycles,Film by Branko Collin @ 11:03 am

When young people go out and enjoy themselves in horror movies, you know things are going to go wrong. Same thing goes for when a Dutch man doesn’t lock his bicycle…

This 2009 short called Vouwfiets Vaterland was made by Marten van Warmerdam and Wouter Zaalberg, and follows a day in the life of a folding bike.

The 7:25 minute long movie was shot for the Nederlands Online Film Festival. ‘Vouwfiets’ is Dutch for folding bicycle, and Vaterland is a bicycle brand.

Man mistakes urinal for sink

Filed under: Weird by Branko Collin @ 11:41 am

Bibi Telleman, reporter for 105 TV, was doing a behind the scenes bit about the cleanliness of the facilities at the Liberation Day festival in Haarlem last week, when a member of the North American intelligentsia decided it was time to teach the rest of the world a lesson about hygiene. (Either that, or he wanted to attention-whore.)

Orangemaster says to give a big shout out to all the poor drudges like her who have to DJ the Ascension festivals today. (“Shout-out?” She did not say “shout-out.” It was something not as 2003.)

To borrow words from Youtube: as seen on Boingboing and Milk and Cookies.

The Amsterdam Literary Festival (ALF) is an annual event, held each May, which aims to put the charming Dutch capital on the world literary map – especially in the lead-up to 2008 when Amsterdam is UNESCO World Book Capital. This year’s edition will run from 15-20 May 2007.

Past guests at ALF have included the BBC’s Kate Adie OBE, award-winning novelist Sarah Waters and one of the UK’s most exciting writers, David Mitchell.

This year’s programme features performances, poetry, lectures and rummages through books at local book markets. And there’s the closing event: World Cuisine Buffet on an old steamship!
