World Hiphop- 2017

Last week the girls from the 2crew4u from Hoofddorp, North-Holland won the Hiphop World Championship 2017 in Copenhagen.

In an interview with two girls of this group of 11-12 year olds came the answers “I didn’t know what to think” and “I had to let it sink in”, both level-headed Dutch reactions. “Why is this group so good?”, asked the reporter to the coach in the video linked to this story. “The group is very disciplined and had a goal and went for it”.

Sadly, the group is breaking up. Some girls will move on to higher levels, some will stay at the same level and others will leave and do other things, not unlike their non-dancing peers. Follow the story link for a look at their performance.

Timelapse video of basketball hall morphing into concert venue, and back again

Filed under: Architecture by Branko Collin @ 11:44 pm

This is a lovely time-lapse video by videographer Pepijn Koning of the MartiniPlaza venue in Groningen, of which the centre hall seats 4,500.

Earlier this month the Dutch Basketball League play-offs were held here, but in the middle of the play-offs the basketball hall had to make room for a dance hall in which a paint party was to be held (folks dancing while squirting each other with paint).

The video shows how the hall transforms from one type of venue into the other and back again.

Dancing in the street

On Saturday, July 18, three motivated parties got together and created a real ‘happening’ in front of the Rockarchive photo gallery in Amsterdam. A group of enthusiastic rock n’ rollers from the Gel Vereniging danced until dark right on the pavement to the delight of many people, the gallery got people paying them a visit to look at their unique photo collection and Orangemaster (aka DJ Natashka) scored the music and took some pictures.

Considering the slightly somber mood of downtown Amsterdam as of late with increasingly more odd rules on how to behave on terraces and on the streets, we had expected complaints or even the police, but it was smooth sailing from 6 pm to 11 pm. Many people took pictures, a film crew came by and now more people know how cool the Rockarchive photo gallery really is.
