On 17 August, world-famous DJ TIësto will perform at Hakkasan at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas and he’s giving his Facebook fans the chance to have him officiate and spin CDs at their wedding. He plans to pick the lucky couple who give him a good story out of his inbox, so send him some mail at email@example.com by August 10.
After reaching 15 million fans on Facebook this week, it is apparently time for TIësto to give back and get even more publicity. He’s also giving a whole new meaning to the concept of wedding DJ.

According to Forbes.com, Dutch DJ Tiësto (aka Tijs Verwest, if you knew him from his home town of Breda), is the world’s best paid DJ at 22 million USD. The number 9 spot is taken up by another Dutchman, DJ Afrojack, with a mere 9 million USD. He’s the one that apparently ‘taught’ Paris Hilton how to DJ, but then that happens when you date a DJ like him.
And surprise surprise, there are no women on the list.
And to rub that fact in, a reality talent show entitled Beauty and the Beat wants to teach poor women DJs the ropes in just one style of music, house, some time next February. Imagine having real talent and showing the world you can crank out DJs like Afrojack can teach Paris Hilton. The promotional video asks, “Do you have the looks, the skills and the drive?” in that order. It all sounds so condescending, so we’ll keep you updated.

In June, world-famous DJ Tiësto will be opening his own restaurant on the Reguliersbreestraat in Amsterdam. DJ Tiësto (we’ll call him Thijs) loves cooking as well as spinning records. The restaurant will name the dishes according to his greatest hits, so you can order a ‘Flight 643’ and a ‘Traffic’. The chef is not yet known, but apparently he is very creative.

On Friday 16 March, DJ Tiësto will be spinning tunes in the new luggage hall at Schiphol airport. The DJ from Breda has already sold 2,400 tickets to fans who did not even know where the gig was to be held. Although the hall has not yet officially been opened, the ‘concert’ will last four hours, marking the beginning of the ‘Elements of Life’ world tour. Tiësto will also ‘perform’ in the Gelredome in Arnhem, the date of which will be announced on Friday.
(The quotes are a veiled reference to the Dutch tax folks who consider some DJs as ‘performing artists’ who can deduct costs, but other DJs as just some ‘people spinning records’.)
